“Miami Blues” is an amazing crime story that so many people have forgotten. I guess that’s because George Armitage hasn’t made a ton of movies over his career. The guy’s got an unusual creative stamp that’s hard to miss. Whether it’s the Hare Krishna or the detective’s false teeth, Armitage puts his stamp over everything. But, this movies belongs to its three leads. Leigh, Baldwin and Ward all bring their A-Game in a way that I’m not sure they ever replicated.

The plot is pretty standard, as Fred Ward makes the most of playing an older detective. However, the film’s strength is in its willingness to show had bad things can get. The downward spiral on display in the film is stunning, as you never know what’s going to go wrong. At times, I expect Baldwin just to start yelling at people for no reason. Truly, it’s stunning.

The Blu-Ray comes with new interviews as the special features. The A/V Quality is pretty solid for an older movie. The 1080p transfer is stunning. The same goes for the DTS-HD 2.0 master audio track. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
