Freestyle Digital Media Acquires VOD Rights to “STARGAZER” – Available Across North America Starting April 30, 2024

Freestyle Digital Media, a key player in digital film distribution and a division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, is excited to announce the acquisition of North American VOD rights for the compelling drama, “STARGAZER.” The film is set to be accessible for rent or purchase on all major digital HD platforms, including internet, cable, and satellite services in North America, as well as on DVD, from April 30, 2024.

“STARGAZER” explores the poignant story of Grace Campbell, a naïve graduate student who embarks on a journey to restore the legacy of a neglected female astronomer, Cecilia Payne. Payne’s groundbreaking discovery about the universe’s composition was overshadowed by male contemporaries who claimed her achievements as their own. Grace’s quest mirrors the struggles of her historical counterpart, challenging her to navigate modern academia’s pitfalls and the precarious nature of collaboration and recognition.

The narrative deepens with the introduction of Spike Randall, an assertive journalist who coerces Grace into a high-stakes television appearance, and Diana, a dancer who uses the backdrop of ancient Greek myths to craft a ballet about gender dynamics and power. Over the course of a transformative night, Grace revisits Cecilia’s past at Harvard during the 1920s, facing both historical and personal revelations.

Directed by Alan McIntyre and penned by Rob Ackerman and Kate Ginna, “STARGAZER” not only features a strong ensemble cast, including Kate Ginna in the lead role of Grace and Broadway star Matt Bogart as Spike Randall, but also real-life historian Annette Gordon-Reed playing herself. The film has received critical acclaim, being selected for ten film festivals and winning several awards, including two for Best Feature and Best Actress for Ginna.
