MURDER OF A CAT

“Murder of a Cat” is so damn quirky that it makes Wes Anderson want to punch it in the face. A lonely weirdo is best friends with an aging cat. Unfortunately, the cat has been murdered. The cat’s murder unveils a new secret life with a secret owner at a nearby nursing home. She’s a pretty young thing that wants to find out what happened to the cat. Will our loner weirdo hero get his act together?

Fran Kranz has won me over with his various roles on Whedon productions. However, he almost plays the role too well. It’s a Hardy Boys adventure that takes forever to get the point. Thankfully, there’s a murder’s row of character actors to help us get through the film. I don’t know who owed who a favor, but they paid it off in spades.

The DVD comes with no special features. The A/V Quality is pretty strong for an indie production. The Dolby 5.1 track is pretty amazing, but there’s rarely a chance to hear all channels firing. The same goes for the flat transfer. In the end, I’d recommend a rental or stream.
