INDEPENDENCE DAYSASTER

INDEPENDENCEDAYSASTERDVDBOX

THE PLOT THUS FAR

It’s the 4th of July, and America is celebrating. But when a hostile force attacks from both outer space and within Earth itself, our planet may be on the menu for a holiday barbecue. Can a small-town fireman (Ryan Merriman of Pretty Little Liars), a physics-loving teen (Andrea Brooks of Supernatural), a rogue scientist (Emily Holmes of METEOR STORM), a pair of nerd hackers and the stranded President Of The United States (Tom Everett Scott of THAT THING YOU DO!) now find a way to stop the invasion, nuke the alien mothership, and set off the biggest fireworks display of all? Keenan Tracy (Bates Motel) co-stars in this Syfy Original hit from the producers of 12 DISASTERS and END OF THE WORLD.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“Independence Daysaster” wants you to believe that Tom Everett Scott could ever play the President. Granted that it’s a SyFy original, so having the drummer from That Thing You Do might seem like an upgrade. The alien invaders want to terraform the Earth into a place that they can live. Naturally, it’s up to a team of hackers, a rogue scientist and a nuke to set things right. Honestly, I just wish they got a 10 year old to start writing this shit. If you’re catering to that audience, then go full Axe Cop on its ass.

I haven’t CG look this bad in a decade. That being said, it adds to the overall shoddy charm of the film. I can’t quite tell if the things burrowing out of the ground were supposed to look like dicks or not. But, they’re mechanical alien dicks. Big shiny ones too! Maybe, I’m reading into it.

The DVD comes with no special features. The standard definition transfer is on par with the original broadcast. The Dolby 5.1 audio track is lossy. So, there’s that. In the end, I’d recommend a rental to the curious.
