“Ghostlight” Set to Illuminate Theaters in New York and Chicago This June

IFC Films is proud to announce the theatrical release of “Ghostlight,” a stirring drama that captivates the transformative power of theater. Premiering in New York and Chicago on June 14, the film is slated for a nationwide expansion soon after. Audiences and critics alike can get a sneak peek of the film’s allure by checking out the trailer now available.

“Ghostlight” tells the poignant story of Dan, a construction worker whose life takes an introspective turn as he distances himself from his wife and daughter. Finding solace and a sense of belonging in a local theater group performing “Romeo and Juliet,” Dan discovers parallels between the play’s narrative and his own life challenges. The film delicately explores themes of loss and reconciliation, inviting the audience into the deeply personal journey of its characters.

Directed by the acclaimed duo Alex Thompson and Kelly O’Sullivan, who previously captivated audiences with “Saint Frances,” “Ghostlight” continues their tradition of creating emotionally resonant films. The screenplay, penned by O’Sullivan, delves into complex family dynamics and the cathartic power of community arts. The film boasts compelling performances by Keith Kupferer, Tara Mallen, and Katherine Mallen Kupferer, with Dolly De Leon also delivering a notable performance.

“Ghostlight” made a remarkable debut at the 40th Annual Sundance Film Festival on January 18, 2024, receiving enthusiastic acclaim. The film’s critical success builds on the legacy of Thompson and O’Sullivan, whose work has been recognized with nominations from the Film Independent Spirit Awards and The Gotham Awards, and accolades including the Audience Award and Special Jury Award at SXSW.

Produced by a team including Thompson, Chelsea Krant, Pierce Cravens, Ian Keiser, Eddie Linker, and Alex Wilson, “Ghostlight” is a testament to the enduring impact of indie filmmaking.

Ghostlight is a must-see for those who appreciate the reflective interplay between life and art, and it promises to be a significant addition to this year’s cinematic offerings.

Be sure to catch it in theaters starting June 14 in New York and Chicago, with more cities to follow.
