GAME CHANGERS REVIEWED
“Game Changers” is a coming-of-age tale about people in arrested development. While there is money to be made in eSports, there’s no career in it. For those that don’t grind for XP, eSports is basically an attempt to legitimize playing the living hell out of your XBOX. The film follows two guys that were great at it when teens, but now the crushing reality of adulthood is ruining those dreams. One chooses to move into adulthood, while the other fights for more glory.
When you watch the movie, you’ll realize that no one is forcing the issue of what matters most. Each man is free to follow his bliss, but the realities of each choice weigh heavily upon them. It’s fascinating how such an open-ended movie can impact people. I thought the film was pretty interesting, but still typical. Meanwhile, I watched the film with a Madden pro gamer and he was just mouthing “F This Noise”.
Personal experience dictates all viewing experiences, but I feel that the film didn’t do enough to make a statement. But, such things are difficult without being preachy. Oh well, it works for what it is.
