A Journey from the Mojave to the Stars

Scenic, established by Savage Republic and Independent Project Records founder Bruce Licher, debuted in 1995. The band found inspiration in the stark landscapes of the Mojave Desert, brewing a post-psychedelic mix of surf rock with cinematic undertones reminiscent of Ennio Morricone. By their third album, “The Acid Gospel Experience,” Scenic had evolved their sound to explore new auditory terrains while maintaining their evocative, cinematic style.

This album transports listeners through an atmospheric blend of ambient space rock, expanding Scenic’s improvisational prowess. It incorporates a diverse array of instruments including sitar, vibes, and congas, alongside innovative guitar effects, to create a soothing, enveloping sound.

Tracks that Transport

From the upbeat, krautrock-inflected “Lightspeed” to the sprawling, 18-minute “A Journey Through The Outer Reaches of Inner Space,” the album weaves an impressionistic tapestry of psychedelia. It nods to the experimental vibes of early ’70s German rock while maintaining a distinctively Scenic flavor. The album also features contributions from minimalist icon Harold Budd, particularly noted on the track “Under a Wing.”

A Collector’s Dream

This limited edition release is sure to be a collector’s item, packaged in a deluxe Unipak-style gatefold jacket. Only 1,000 numbered copies will be available, making it a unique find for dedicated collectors and new listeners alike.

Larry Crane of Tape Op Magazine praised the original release, noting its rich blend of electronics and fuzzy guitars, highlighted by Budd’s ethereal piano.
