THE VAULT SERIES REVIEWED
“The Vault Series” is an amazing look at “The Tonight Show”. Most of the episodes come from the mid 1970s and sports a generous portion of the NYC shows. The 6 DVD set includes 12 full shows and it’s a nostalgic throwback. Joe Frazier, Gene Kelly, Michael Landon and so many departed stars show up for the kind of fun that Carson defined. Hell, you even get some animal fun with Joan Embery.
It’s a fun release for me, as I only became aware of Carson right when he was being shuffled off the air. There’s a reason why he is so revered by his peers and all of those comedians that took his chair invite as the mark of grace. Make sure that you check out the bonus features to see some excised material that puts a lot of the shows into their proper era. Did you know that Vincent Price could cook? Well, you’ll know now.
