TEXAS RANGERS: THE REAL STORIES

“Texas Rangers: The Real Stories” is a compilation of three amazing documentaries that History Channel has aired in the past. I’m a far bigger fan of their Real West series that Kenny Rogers used to host. But, that was back in a time before pawn shops started to dominate their programming. If you’re familiar with the slightest bit of history, Sam Houston and Stephen Austin get a ton of coverage. Everything else, not so much.

The History Channel has tackled Texas history several times and it appears they’re going into the breach again on Memorial Day. I’m looking for that show, but I feel that this is two hours and change worth of background material. Do you really need that material unless you’re a young kid? I forget that this is America and everything before 1980 is ancient history.

The DVD comes with no special features. The A/V Quality is fairly typical for this kind of material. The transfer is flat, but the Dolby track keeps everything upfront. If you’ve seen one History Channel documentary, you know the presentation for all of their DVDs. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to the interested.
