In the quest for world domination, the Nazis built some of the biggest and deadliest pieces of military hardware and malevolent technology in history; tanks as big as battleships, superguns blasting shells the weight of an SUV and rocket domes capable of smashing whole cities. They’re all part of Hitler’s plan to control a nation, conquer a continent and win the war. Today , the remains of these incredible projects can still be found, if you know where to look.
Nazi Mega Weapons follows a group of experts on a dark journey through Europe’s mountains, forests and beaches to uncover engineering secrets that have lain hidden for decades and the stories of the men that designed them. Using stunning drama reconstructions and CGI each film also unravels the complex engineering challenges they faced and the battles that would be fought by ordinary soldiers to build, defend and survive Hitler’s terrifying Mega Weapons.
WHAT WE THOUGHT
“Nazi Mega Weapons” has enough material to keep an old man’s ass glued to the couch until 2014. The documentary is pretty focused, as we hunt down what exactly lead the Nazis to create weapons of mass destruction. The German engineering coupled with the dreams of a mad man led to creations that have dominated warfare for the rest of the century. Everything from the US Space Program to defense networking emerged from these ideas. It’s just a shame that it had to come from such a pile of dicks.
The DVD comes with no special features. The A/V Quality is strong with a supportive transfer and a Dolby audio track. The Dolby track doesn’t get much back channel action outside of the few major archival scenes. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to WWII buffs.
