LOST GARDENS OF BABYLON, THE

lostgardensofbabylondvdbox

THE PLOT THUS FAR

A world wonder so elusive, it must be mythical…The Lost Gardens of Babylon follows Dr. Stephanie Dalley as she hunts for the gardens using ancient texts and spy satellite images to uncover evidence to support her theory that the gardens were built 100 years before commonly believed. Her search takes her to one of the most dangerous places on earth in a modern-day adventure story searching to find a site thousands of years old.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“The Lost Gardens of Babylon” is an amazing documentary. But, I’m always a fan of the Secrets of the Dead releases that PBS puts out. Dr. Stephanie Dalley takes us through a tour and explains the history behind the Gardens of Babylon. Specifically, the fact that records were loose back then and the Gardens might have become a Wonder of the World way before we knew about it. What makes it even cooler is that we get satellite footage rather than forced CG imagery.

Wandering through the Mid-East now is dangerous. But, I appreciate people like Dr. Dalley that are willing to investigate matters like this before they’re destroyed in some stupid conflict. Too often, we lose relics and materials to people fighting it out over nothing. While the full gardens are lost to time and were once considered legendary. What we have today is enough to begin rebuilding a link to the past that conflict and time has nearly made forgotten. I love it when history and technology work together to bring us closer to a new truth!

The DVD comes with no special features. The A/V Quality is on par with standard definition releases. The transfer has a rather flat appearance. But, the Dolby track does its work. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to the curious.
