LIFE AND DEATH IN ASSISTED LIVING

LIFEANDDEATHINASSISTEDLIVINGdvdbox

THE PLOT THUS FAR

Nearly 750,000 elderly Americans are spending their later years in for-profit assisted living facilities. This loosely regulated, multibillion-dollar industry is dominated by one company: Emeritus Senior Living. In a year-long investigation, FRONTLINE and ProPublica raise questions about fatal lapses in care, understaffing, and a quest for profits.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“Life and Death in Assisted Living” seems pretty biased. I can’t quite put a finger on whether it was the ominous music or careful lighting choices that decided to make all assisted living care look like it was evil. The material is pretty strong, but it just feels like the agenda was decided from the start. I expect more out of Frontline since it’s not part of the mainstream media. But, I guess that everyone ultimately lets you down.

The DVD comes with no special features. The A/V Quality is strong with a supportive transfer and a Dolby audio track. The Dolby track doesn’t get much back channel action. Still, it carries the dialogue. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
