LADY LIBERTINE/LOVE CIRCLES REVIEWED
“Lady Libertine” is far more famous for the real court case that happened in real life. The film starred French game show host Sophie Favier. Playboy picked up the international rights and funded the film to get a major release. Then, Favier fought it in court and lost. What result is a rather complex film about sexual intrigue that would be winning Awards with a better director. But, that was never going to happen when you realize that Golan/Globus picked up the cost not covered by Playboy.
“Love Circles” is a modern update of La Ronde. If you’re not familiar with the tale, it’s practically The Canterbury Tales with boning. This film goes around the globe to follow various couples and lover finding a way to have sex on airplanes and other objects. It’s pretty boring when compared to “Lady Libertine”. How no one has written a paper about the sexual confusion of that first film is beyond me. It’s basically a tale of a rich guy praying upon a sexually ambiguous girl and turning her into a Sex Goddess.
Things like this are why I love what Severin does for the home video market.
- 1.33:1 1080p transfer
- Dolby 2.0
