“I Love Lucy” arrives on Blu-Ray with its second season given stunning treatment. The CBS team is killing with Paramount on these releases and I hope that everyone out there supports them. This season is remembered for the birth of little Ricky and the chocolate factory episode. But, what’s most important is that all 31 episodes are presented uncut. For most of you, this will be your first time experiencing that.
You’re going to get the original commercials, the stick figures and the general 1952 goodness. You also get a colorized version of the Job Switching episode, but I hate that stuff. It’s color corrected and it’s a neat look at what it must’ve been like if you were in the live audience. But, I want to see shows as they were first shown.
For those that saw the reruns, those openings and closings are also available. It’ll be neat to watch the material with young kids, as 60 year old programming really knocks them for loops. What makes this show matter is that it’ll hold their focus. There does come a time when you can’t even sell a show like this to the young outside of an educational opportunity. But, there’s nothing wrong with that.
The Blu-Ray comes with clips, flashback sequences, commentary, radio series episodes and tons of bonus material as the special features. The A/V Quality is stunning for a classic show. The 1080p transfer stands among the best I’ve seen for TV on Blu. Plus, you get a true source LPCM mono track presented in a non compressed format. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
