“Song One” is an interesting indie drama. Basically, Hathaway plays a woman having to reunite with her critically injured brother. She realizes that maybe she shouldn’t have shunned him for choosing music over college. All the while, she heads out and finds her brother’s musical hero. The two bond, as Hathaway’s mom and brother stimulate a side of Hathaway that they never knew existed.
Anne Hathaway doesn’t bother me like she does some people. I know that there a ton of LGBT conspiracy theories out there, but I feel that even that is dated by now. I just find that she keeps doing the same film while keeping the doe eyed vacant stare. That works for me, when the script is there. Unfortunately, the script was barely there on this film. Jonathan Demme produced it, so that explains landing the cast that the film pulled off. It’s just a shame that they couldn’t get Demme on the hook to find an ending.
The Blu-Ray comes with a behind-the-scenes recording of the soundtrack, deleted scenes and a trailer as the special features. The A/V Quality is pretty clean for an indie romance. The 1080p transfer really pops. The DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track pops with such well-defined musical cues. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to the curious.
