THE PLOT THUS FAR

In these six turbo-charged episodes plus coloring pages, new Character Montages and more Wilson and the Chug Patrollers attempt a daring bridge rescue, Brewster helps the Chuggineers build a new station, Koko tries to break her Chug-A-Sonic record, the Speed Fleet competes in the Track Dash, and everybody learns how to use the Piggy-Back Wagon. And with friends and mentors like Hanzo, Asher and Payce riding along, your own trainees will learn to work together, play fair and use good judgment as they take on new responsibilities of their own!

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“Turbo Charged Chugger” is the latest compilation of Chuggington episodes. The Speed Fleet gets more to do in this outing, but I did like that Hanzo was featured more. If you’re over a certain age and currently possess no children, everything I said will have sounded like gibberish. But, that’s how most specialized reviews sound so deal with it. While the disc clocks in at a slightly over an hour, there’s something satisfying about a reliable release that will keep a kid entertained for a certain amount of time. It’s no Babyfirst, but what is?

Chuggington tends to skew towards little boys, but I found that Koko keeps young girls entertained. Maybe gender bias in random objects is inherent from birth? I’m not going to read that much into it, as I’ve also my daughter develop an unhealthy fascination with Vincent Van Gogh. Yeah, I know it’s weird…but kids do weird stuff. She’s also found of talking vehicles that exist in an anthropomorphized reality.

The DVD comes with a Badge Quest episode, character montages and coloring sheets as the special features. The A/V Quality is pretty sharp for standard definition. That being said, the transfer still doesn’t get much to do. The Dolby 2.0 surround track keeps the front channels pumping. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to parents of young kids.
