The Carer is the second damn Brian Cox is elderly movie I’ve reviewed this summer. Suffering from Parkinson’s, Cox plays a theatrical star who is trying to make the most of his time left. Shot ages ago due to the fact that Sir Roger Moore is appearing above ground, it’s not a surprise that the film didn’t have a pulse in America. It’s practically so British that it shits the Queen.
If it gets anything wrong, the film fails because it asks an audience to become emotionally involved with an ill-defined dynamic. The DVD comes with patron interviews and a trailer. I wish we had something more like we get with the Film Movement proper releases. But, I take getting the chance to see movies like The Carer that don’t get major play in America.
