Like A Boss plays like the first original female-led CNBC original sitcom. What happened to make this movie? I’m not against such a female centric movie, but we need something that plays as more than a creative exercise for a business course. So, what is there to this word problem turned into a movie?
Tiffany Haddish has been looking for a star vehicle for ages. Everyone loved Girls’ Trip, but nobody can name a Haddish only film they dig. So, when Like A Boss got tailored to her strengths, it was weird not to see Haddish dominating. Especially when the film is evenly split between Haddish and Rose Byrne.
Salma Hayek almost feels like she’s part of a different movie. Serving as Like A Boss’s semi-villain, she swoops in to fix the problem made by Haddish and Byrne. When she tries to take advantage of the situation, she is targeted by former partners and the lead duo. All the while, it’s never made clear why she is bad. It’s kinda crazy.
Bouncing around for 83 minutes, the film feels like a sitcom pilot stretched out way too long. Nothing makes sense and it feels like you’re watching two films at the same time both screaming for your attention. Rose Byrne and Tiffany Haddish are both pretty great in the leads, but that doesn’t mean anything. Especially since the movie doesn’t really have a point.
The Blu-ray comes with deleted scenes and featurettes as the special features. The A/V Quality is pretty sharp for a recent release. As per recent changes, I’m going to include screenshots instead of talking about the quality. You get to decide rather than taking my word for it. Give it a stream/rental/whatever.
