UNCLE JED, JETHRO & ELLY MAE CLAMPETT ARE BACK TO SOLVE THE ENERGY CRISIS!
During its decade on network television, THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES (1962-1971) was among the most popular of all comedy series. In 1981, original cast members BUDDY EBSEN (Jed Clampett), DONNA DOUGLAS (Elly Mae) and NANCY KULP (Mrs. Hathaway) reunited for RETURN OF THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES.
Following the death of Granny, Jed Clampett has returned home to live in his country cabin while son Jethro has stayed on in California as a Hollywood movie producer and Elly Mae manages a zoo full of the critters she loves. Former bank assistant Mrs. Hathaway now works for the U.S. Government and along with her new boss “Chief,” played by Werner Klemperer (Colonel Klink in Hogan’s Heroes) attempts to solve the nation’s energy crisis with some unexpected help from the Clampetts.
WHAT WE THOUGHT
“Return of the Beverly Hillbillies” was a typical reunion TV-movie from the early 80s. The basic plot is above, but you guys don’t read and you’re still begging me to do video reviews. Hell, I could make up something and see how well it trends online. Granny has died and Jed Clampett has returned home for vengeance. He’s disappointed that Jethro sold out, while Elly Mae has dedicated her life to defenseless creatures. Now, it’s up to Jed and Mrs. Hathaway to help save the Nation from the looming Energy Crisis.
Didn’t that sound fun? Hell, Colonel Klink is in it! He’s the Nazi that is still cool to laugh about, unlike Goebbels.

The DVD comes with introductions, featurettes and vintage promotional material as the special features. The A/V Quality is strong with a supportive transfer and a Dolby audio track. The Dolby track doesn’t get much back channel action outside of the few major action scenes. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to fans.
