MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000: VOLUME XXX

mst3kxxxdvd

THE PLOT THUS FAR

For those of you who have one (or possibly 30 now) of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 collections, please skip to the third paragraph.Welcome new friends. You’ve heard about this show, possibly read an article in a magazine or seen it referenced on some other show you watch: but what exactly is it? Basically, it’s a show about a guy and his two robot friends aboard a space ship who are forced to watch old, cheesy movies by mad scientists. To get through it, they make wisecracks during the movies, a comic call-and-response. It was on TV for ten years. There’s a feature film, too. That’s the gist of it. You know enough now. Read on.

Okay, we’re back on for four more of you know what, with you know who getting all kinds of nutty. Enjoy.

Titles Include:

The Black Scorpion

Outlaw (Of Gor)

The Projected Man

It Lives By Night

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“Mystery Science Theater 3000″ gets its 30th DVD release. The assortment of B movies presented here are no-name affairs. I’ve seen a ton of garbage cinema and even I couldn’t muster up most of the chuckles that Tom Servo and the others throw out. It’s kind of bad that I spent most of my time looking at the Steve Vance posters rather than the presentation. But, it feels like that happens on every fourth MST3K release.

The Satellite of Love has seen better movies than this release. The Black Scorpion has some cool laughable effects, but that’s it. What really matters with material like this? Is it enough just to setup jokes at the expense of old film production or do you have to believe in the Robot Crew? This was quite a disappointment for a big Anniversary release.

The DVD comes with featurettes, music videos and a trailer as the special features. The A/V Quality is on par with past MST3K releases. The Dolby track is as strong as the public domain films bare. But, the transfer is cleaned up. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to fans.

RELEASE DATE: 07/29/2014
