VEEP: THE COMPLETE SIXTH SEASON

VEEP: THE COMPLETE SIXTH SEASON REVIEWED

“Veep” arrives with a sixth season under a new showrunner. You also get a ton of flashbacks and an effort to humanize Selina in a way unmatched by prior seasons. Coming this late in a show’s run, I get the effort to make everyone far more friendly. But, it makes me cringe when I think that they’re trying to soften the show. The finale goes out of its way to make it seem that everyone will remain hardcore, but then there’s Amy.

Anna Chlumsky is the major supporting player in the show. Trying to make her distracted or not focused on Team Meyer becomes shaky. What are we supposed to do in Season 7? Hold our breath and hope that she has her baby? It feels like a countdown to material that belongs on a sitcom. While this show is a comedy, nothing about the presentation is situational. This is a collection of bad people doing their best in the worst city in America.

Get them back to DC with a purpose. Even if it is to make America worse. I miss Selina Meyer having a degree of power.
