SONG OF SOLOMON, THE

THE SONG OF SOLOMON REVIEWED

“The Song of Solomon” took forever to finish covering. It’s not a hard movie to watch, it’s just that it’s hard to watch with a little kid in the room. Hell, the movie opens on the film’s director giving himself a Colombian necktie. My kid isn’t easily scared, but she saw that and just bolted. Now that I had time freed up, I was able to continue this story deep into its Exorcism trappings. While I’ve seen 800 different Exorcism movies, somehow this felt different. Well, not that different. There are only so many ways to raid demons from the souls of the innocent. The film takes place mainly on one set, but it uses the demonic possession idea to just beat scene after scene to death. It’s not terrible, but it gets that marathon level of abuse that might overwhelm some. Others have tried to claim that the movie is an American Guinea Pig flick, but I have yet to see anything that confirms it. Still, the gore is pretty damn intense. My only detraction is that I wish we had lossless audio on the disc. I get that indie production stick to Dolby mixes for profitability, but there seemed to be real missed opportunities to play with the sound design. Still, this is the level of special features I like to see out of indie productions. Kill us with content, guys. I recommend this one to horror snobs.
