JOHN WICK: CHAPTER TWO (4K UHD)

JOHN WICK: CHAPTER TWO REVIEWED

“John Wick: Chapter Two” is proof that Action Cinema is alive and well. But, what about Chapter Two? What did it do so right? While the action remained rather high, the Wick creative team is building a world for the audience. Hell, they have enough material to do 10 Wick movies and I’d watch them all. To the novice viewer, that might seem a bit much. But, step back and realize the information jumps between Chapter One and Chapter Two.

Hell, step even further back and piece together the nature of Wick’s life. Like a great novel, we met Wick in media res. That first time Keanu Reeves molded the character, his time as an assassin didn’t even get focus until they needed it. There are prequels to be shown and even a future where Old Man Wick decides what his life is going to be. Given the shotgun battles with people like Common and others, will he even get to be an old man?

It’s rare when a two hour movie can feel like it was 30 minutes, but that’s the kind of gas that the Wick team is cooking with now. But, what about the 4K disc? Fans will be pleased to know that Lionsgate/Summit has released another reference quality disc. The visuals are impeccable in 4K. But, the true champion of the disc is both the Dolby Atmos and Dolby TrueHD 7.1 down mix tracks. It shouldn’t be a point of pride to say that I nearly went death about 30 minutes in, but here we are.

I’d go so far as to say that this is the best 4K disc audio on the market. For a film like “John Wick”, I wouldn’t expect anything less. So, head out and pick it up.
