BILL & TED’S MOST EXCELLENT COLLECTION REVIEWED

“Bill & Ted’s Most Excellent Collection” is showing that Shout can work wonders with the Orion/MGM/etc catalogue. Across three discs, fans will wax nostalgic at the sheer volume of talent that came back to talk about the movies. Alex Winter is the most thoughtful participant, as he shares jokes and talks about his push to get Station into the second movie. What’s more endearing is seeing Winter reunite with Keanu Reeves for some of the video interviews. You can tell that still like working off each other and that Wyld Stallyns chemistry hasn’t faded.

However, the interviews and documentary footage also show a downside. Carlin is gone, some of the historical figures have aged terribly and Missy now looks like a soccer mom. But, it’s also refreshing to have commentaries discuss what helped create the films. They talk of how they prefer Journey, but admit that it has gaping third act problems. What’s sad is that long lost deleted scenes from Adventure weren’t recovered. I’d still love to see that film’s original ending.

That being said, this release thrives on its reach and access. While not every fan favorite franchise can share in this sort of love due to mortality and cost…fans are lucky here. I especially love the attention paid to Kevin Yagher’s work on the movies. Special FX and makeup artists need to be paid their due. If you ever were a fan, then this release is a must-buy.

The Plot Thus Far

Wyld Stallyns couldn’t drag you away from this MOST EXCELLENT COLLECTION!

From the past to the future, and to Hell and back… witness the triumphant travels of history’s most significant slackers Bill & Ted, in a bodacious, two-film Blu-ray set that’ll have you tuning up your air guitar for a stellar solo!

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure finds our non-heinous heroes (Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves) in danger of flunking History: a most odious proposition! But when the righteous Rufus (George Carlin) arrives in a time-traveling phone booth, the dense dudes discover their destiny… and call on the past’s biggest names for help!

In Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, the titular time travelers aren’t making history: they are history! When an evil-doer from the future sends eviller robot twins of Bill & Ted to assassinate and replace good, non-robot Bill & Ted, the guys wind up face to face with the Grim Reaper (William Sadler)! Can the now-dead duo escape, defeat their evil doppelgangers, and win their Battle of the Bands contest?
