ALL EYEZ ON ME REVIEWED
“All Eyez on Me” is like “Walk Hard” played straight. That makes it a TV movie without a sense of humor. Moments from Tupac’s life get played with the sincerity of a checklist. He meets Jada Pinkett and then hangs out with Digital Underground. If that wasn’t enough, we get to learn about his mother and her role in raising him. The rest of the film hangs in the mid 1990s and tries to ape “Straight Outta Compton” so hard. But, it doesn’t come together.
Demetrius Shipp Jr makes for an excellent Tupac Shakur. It’s just a shame that he’s lost in a movie that plays like a special historical reenactment. If you have a young Hip Hop fan in your life, then this could be a cool educational film for them. I do know that some serious Tupac fans are finding fault with minor details in the film. However, it hits enough high notes to ring true enough. If you have the film playing near you, don’t delay seeing it. Biopics never seem to last that long in the summer movie season.
