THE BLACKCOAT’S DAUGHTER REVIEWED
“The Blackcoat’s Daughter” is a three perspective look into a haunting visit at a Boarding School. Well, it might seem three, but it’s more like two. Hell, you can go even further and say it’s just one person showing us a tale out of sync. Still, it’s a wintry tale of Catholic School Girls in Trouble. In a period that has seen the release of “The Witch” and other Satanic forces tempting young women, this film occupies a familiar spot. That being said, what can one say for the directorial debut of Osgood Perkins?
Perkins has had a two film impressive bow and I’m keeping my eye on the guy. Sure, the horror behind “The Blackcoat’s Daughter” is familiar, but it’s done in a way that’s intriguing. Classic scares and commonly shared ghoulies don’t ever change that much. What defines them is how the storyteller hides them in a world built one step at a time. Shipka, Roberts and Boynton are three incredible young actresses who work themselves to the brink in order to make the horror pop. Excellent jobs all around. Watch it now!
