LOUDER THAN BOMBS

LOUDER THAN BOMBS REVIEWED

“Louder Than Bombs” is a moody meditation on themes of life and death. The problem is that for a director making his English language debut, you might’ve wanted to step back a bit on the melancholy. Characters are portrayed in broad strokes and everything is super serious. While that will make the Arthouse set moist, it means that 90% of the population will skip it based on the trailer. But, what of that other 10% of the audience?

Eisenberg and Byrne pick up a heavy amount of the slack and each actor falls back on their acting crutches. Byrne stays very ethnic even in a well-defined role, while Eisenberg meanders through intellectual happenings. Everything is super serious and both men have a finger in every pie happening in the metaphysical universe. The acting is impeccable and the film sports a solid cast. It’s just that in the pursuit of greater meaning, the filmmakers forgot to give us something to watch. Make of that what you will.
