PERFECT DAY, A

A PERFECT DAY REVIEWED

“A Perfect Day” is a middlin’ drama about the Balkan conflict during the 1990s. Humanitarian workers are trying to save local water supplies, as well as lives. But, romance and bureaucracy keeps getting in the way. The film is desperate to make a point ala MASH, but it never happens. For a cast of this talent level, you’d expect to hear some wit or a general point. Nothing ever comes, as we watch a film dive into the minutia of an underseen period of time. I keep yelling at kids that this was a major issue, but they’re too busy with their Pokemon Go and their hip hop.

Life in war zones is hard. We get that, but what else could the film say? Sometimes, you have to think of tone before crafting a film. I can see where the creative talents thought this was going to be different, but there seems to be a degree of arrogance in trying to up the dark humor ante. When you don’t get that, it just feels recycled. I know that I should care more about humane portrayals of war victims, but I don’t. There’s no punch line, just apathy.
