ANESTHESIA REVIEWED
“Anesthesia” is a great film about how a simple act of violence impacts so many people. While it would’ve been innovative in the mid 00s, it feels passe now. Tim Blake Nelson is an incredible actor/writer/director. However, he needs something than actor porn to get his work out to the masses. The acting talent is an embarrassment of riches, but too much of the narrative structure feels like it belongs to a lesser talent. In Media Res rarely works anymore, so why keep that going?
The film less about characters, but more about fleshy ones spouting larger points. If the writing is good, I can ignore the big melodramatic points. But, it’s worse when you see an otherwise good movie stoop to these petty pitfalls. The minutia of troubled people only goes so far. Give me a reason to watch.
