STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS 4K

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS REVIEWED IN 4K!

“Star Trek Into Darkness” has held him in the same sense that the other Star Trek films held up. Some were great, some were bad and others were laughable. The Bad Robot efforts to keep the Khan twist hidden feels so poorly planned now. While the white washing for an Eastern super soldier seems questionable, it’s just one more bizarre casting turn in a weird legacy. So, I guess it makes in-line with what Roddenberry originated? Things like this are how I get distracted.

The film’s 4K debut is impressive. I keep bringing up how I’m getting won over to 4K recently, but this release continues the streak. Whether it’s Peter Weller chasing Kirk across the cosmos or the Enterprise crashing into San Francisco Bay, the results are impressive. My favorite demo moment has to be the Khan shootout of the Admirals towards the end of the first act. The Dolby Atmos range between the bullet spray and the depth of the environment was stunning. You don’t get quite the same effect in Dolby TrueHD.

For those that are sketchy about upgrading, the second and third discs are the already released Blu-Ray. But, you should really make the effort to see the full film in 4K. While recent releases have been impressing me, this is the first time where I’ve seen HDR kick it up. If this is the first wave of 4K, I can’t wait to see what comes next.
