GRAYEAGLE/WINTERHAWK REVIEWED
“Grayeagle” is another white woman gets kidnapped by Indian movie. Sure, Iron Eyes Cody shows up to help Ben Johnson gets his daughter back. But, it’s basically let’s get the Injuns. If you’re expecting The Searchers, then you’re barking up the wrong tree. What you do get is a American International Pictures jaunt into the deep West. While Corman visited the realm in the 1960s, the Arkoff productions always felt a little sleazier.
“Winterhawk” is about a group of Indians asking for help for their sick friend. When they are driven away, most of the Indians die. Winterhawk kidnaps a white women in order to get medicine from the white men that betrayed him. This leads to a battle between the factions, but it’s pretty strong. This one works as more of a revisionist Western than drive-in exploitation like the first film. Still, the cast is stunning and leaves me wondering why Michael Dante didn’t become a bigger actor.
