EAST SIDE SUSHI REVIEWED
“East Side Sushi” is about a single Mexican mother trying to make ends meet. A brutal robbery pushes her into the nearby Japanese restaurant where her love of food changes her life. Learning from a master Japanese sushi chef, she starts to find new purpose in life. Applying her Latin culinary skills to an emerging world of Japanese cooking, our heroine creates something amazing. Unfortunately, the restaurant owner isn’t a big fan of women as Sushi Chefs. It’s not a thing done in Japan and he wants to promote authenticity in his American establishment. What follows is a latter half of the film that breaks from the new and evokes past female driven movies. That’s not to say it’s bad, I just wanted to see more of Juana’s journey from the start. I’d recommend a purchase.
