PACKED IN A TRUNK: THE LOST ART OF EDITH LAKE WILKINSON

PACKED IN A TRUNK REVIEWED

“Packed in a Trunk” is a really odd documentary. So much of the material is based on secondhand info and it treats rumor like it’s true. Is it possible that Edith Lake Wilkinson was abused, sexually targeted and thrown away in an asylum for simply being lesbian. It’s possible. What the documentary doesn’t offer is holes large enough to drive a truck through while trying to learn about the life of a lost artist. Honestly, having a relative as the central figure of the documentary didn’t help it stay focused.

The lack of a point other than Wilkinson was treated bad doesn’t help anybody. Ultimately, it’s less of a documentary and more of a filmed oddity. Something that belongs to a greater anthology of lost LGTBQ voices rather than strong enough to stand alone. While Jane Anderson is a talent, she could’ve stood to had some outside help to create a larger sense of history and research. Plus, the stuff with the psychic wasn’t really necessary.
