“Unreal” is when reality TV gets turned on its head. While I have to applaud Lifetime for trying to break out of the box, their attempt at satire still feels ho-hum. There’s a genuine spark of intelligence in the sly slams against reality TV. It’s just that the momentum isn’t sustained and the first season ends up falling in the traps of that which it mocks. The DVD comes with material never seen on TV as the special features.
