Grand scope and mediocre execution.
“Marco Polo” is a rather fun adventure series about the legendary explorer’s time in the court of Kublai Khan. You get the sexy Asian exoticism and political intrigue. But, there’s nothing that is going to tug at the brain. I blew off the show for months after it debuted on Netflix and I can’t say that it was a bad call. It’s definitely Netflix B-List material.
However, it is material that does deserve a watch. No one outside of Starz is doing honest adventure series anymore. That’s a lost art for TV and one that deserves a comeback. The Blu-Ray comes with a documentary, gag reel, deleted scenes and featurettes as the special features. If that’s not enough, then I don’t know what is. I’d recommend a purchase to the curious.
