GLEN CAMPBELL GOODTIME HOUR: CHRISTMAS SPECIALS

Glen Campbell offers up some Goodtime Hour Christmas Specials.

Glen Campbell's TV work was hokey, but classic.

“The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour” had two major Christmas specials in 1969 and 1970. Andy Griffith, Anne Murray, Mel Tillis, Jerry Reed and Cher showed up to pitch in for something that I only appreciated. Unfortunately, the schmaltz and hokey nature is on full effect. That will scare off younger viewers who feel that they are above the material. But, it’s neat to see Campbell power out his hits while offering up such a pop culture time capsule.

If you ever wanted to see Cher belt out Jingle Bells, then click on the link above. You get other dated takes on the Christmas classics, but it’s kitsch. The DVD comes with no special features. The A/V Quality is far better than the clips I pulled, but the Dolby track keeps everything upfront. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to fans.
