“The Carol Burnett Show: The Lost Episodes” is a six disc collection of episodes from the first five years of the show. These episodes had never been available on Home Video, streaming or other means. When I first heard of the set, I expected the release to look terrible. But, it appears that Burnett has had the tapes stored away in a vault for decades waiting for the right moment for release. What better than an anniversary?
Carol Burnett offers up the favorites such as The Old Folks, Carol and Sis and As the Stomach Turns. I love it when we get the favorites, but there is a sense of history to these episodes. You get to see Lucille Ball’s first appearance on the show. Plus, you get to see a young Tim Conway show up. Younger viewers might have an issue with the Variety Show format, but it grows on you.
The DVD comes with an exclusive Backstage tour, featurettes, outtakes and new interviews as the special features. The A/V Quality is stunning for a show of its age. The transfers are flawless for standard definition. Plus, the Dolby Stereo track is true to the original audio source. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to fans.
