“The Red Road” is an amazing show that plays matters rather straight forward. Chronically the cultural and logistical battle between a local small town and a Native American tribe, two men balance their drives. Local Native American Phillip Kopus has let go most of his anger while trying to stay safe while on parole. Meanwhile, local Sheriff Harold Jensen is fighting with an unruly native population that is pushing for a Casino that threatens to impact the non native community.
Jason Momoa should be getting awards for his stellar performance as Phillip, but that’s not to overlook Martin Henderson’s work. So much goes on this season, while the only real thrust is to get Momoa through his character’s ordeal. Much of the material has been seen and done before. However, SundanceTV allows this sort of thing to blossom into an insanely well done character study.
The DVD comes with featurettes as the special features. The A/V Quality is sharp for standard definition. The Dolby 5.1 track is expansive for a film like this. I just wish that we could get an HD release of the series. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
