“I Am Evel Knievel” is a documentary dedicated to the greatest stuntman not named Super Dave. You’ll get his humble origins, the Caesar’s Palace jump, Snake River and the botched attempts at retirement. If that wasn’t enough, a never-ending line of talking heads will tell you why this is cool. If you need them to tell you, then you’re already a lost cause. He was Evel Knievel.
So much of the documentary focuses on how the stunts destroyed his body. I appreciate this serious look at the later years for these people who risk life and limb. Sure, the showman stories are funny. But, people need to see that their lives don’t end in a happy matter. It’s happy in a way, but you’re still going to end up in a sling.
The Blu-Ray comes with two featurettes as the special features. The A/V Quality is typical for the past Spike documentaries. The 1080p transfer really pops. The DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track helps for the big moments. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to fans.
