POLDARK: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON

“Poldark” is a nobleman who returns home to England after the Revolutionary War. Poldark rejects what he sees as the commonplace nature of the upper classes. That being said, this show rides the edge of being a historic Harlequin novel. There’s a lot of yearning and people wanting to be with others. All the while, Poldark plays like a mopey Redcoat hipster.

Aidan Turner does amazing in the titular role. However, I can see how it’s rubbing people the wrong way. It’s an effort by the British/ITV to create a younger take on these classic Brit tales. Hell, look at well updating “Great Gatsby” went with the academic elite. Even though it doesn’t always gel, I appreciate the effort.

The Blu-Ray comes with interviews, commentary and featurette as the special features. The A/V Quality is impressive. The 1080i transfer is typical for PBS dramatic productions. The Dolby 2.0 audio track is lossy. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
