“Caillou Helps Out” is the latest Caillou compilation about the bald French kid helping people out. He’s still whiny, as we see that all emotion has finally left his mother’s eyes in this outing. Over the course of seven heart-warming stories, Caillou realizes that he has to pitch in and help others to find a sense of identity in the cold world. He’s a loving four year old without purpose, but the message to parents is not to let your child become like Caillou. If the young viewers need Caillou to guide them, then somehow you’ve already lost at this thing. As I watched this show with my daughter, it’s like Werner Herzog’s influence had finally permeated through PBS animation. I appreciate this turn of events. The DVD comes with coloring pages and activities as the special features.
