“Hot Tub Time Machine 2” is funny enough. That’s never a great way to start discussing a comedy, but it felts apt for a movie where John Cusack decided to opt out. I’m a nerd that loves any story about messing with time and space. However, most of the jokes felt like they were retreads of the last movie or way too self-referential to matter. But, you get Adam Scott taking the lead in a movie.
The problem with comedy sequels remains with this film. The desire to have a traditional plot involving the cross-time hunt for a killer doesn’t add up to much. You get some gross out jokes and more humor poking fun at Clark Duke’s character. After that, you’ve got nothing. There’s a reason this movie died a quick death in theaters.
The Blu-Ray comes with both cuts of the film, commentary, featurettes, bloopers, deleted scenes, extended scenes and a DVD copy as the special features. The A/V Quality is strong for an HD comedy. The 1080p transfer pops across all timelines. Plus, the DTS-HD 5.1 track helps out some of the special effects heavy scenes. In the end, it’s worth a purchase to fans of the first.
