THE PLOT THUS FAR
At a climate observation station high in the German Alps, a group of technicians preparing for a visit from the Environment Minister discover a mysterious red liquid pouring from a nearby glacier. A result of the ice’s melting due to climate change, the now-spreading glacier blood soon comes into contact with local wildlife, causing changes in the fauna that are at first curious but soon become deathly horrifying. Now the isolated team must use every tool at their disposal to defend themselves from the ever-growing horde of biological monstrosities attacking them in this most desolate of environments. Harking back to classic creature features, director Marvin Kren’s BLOOD GLACIER combines stylish film-making with imaginative practical effects to produce a true rollercoaster ride of terror.
WHAT WE THOUGHT
“Blood Glacier” is an ecodisaster movie that wants to play on the works of Carpenter and Cronenberg. Unfortunately, the special effects blow away any character development. Basically, an alien is changing the genetic structure of the local wildlife. These killer alien animals attacks the group of techies, while they fight for survival. If Capcom would’ve made it as a game, most of you nerds would’ve creamed your jeans by this point.
I love it when horror films can use their environments to help with the terror. The use of the melting ice and changing environments produce something that helps the thin villains stand out on their own. Unfortunately, if you pay attention to the script, you’ll notice that not much time was spent on the dialogue. But, you’re here to watch killer creature violence!
The DVD comes with a trailer as the sole special feature. The A/V Quality is sharp enough. The standard definition transfer doesn’t sport any major distractions. Plus, the Dolby 5.1 surround kicks in during the action sequences. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to the curious.
