THE PLOT THUS FAR
The animated series centers on the life and adventures of the famous Geronimo Stilton, head of a media empire, a peaceful mouse and klutz extraordinaire, and his fearless young nephew Benjamin Stilton. Adventure always comes knocking on their door, launching them paws first into capers in New Mouse City or in exotic locales around the world. Based on the hit Scholastic book series (26+ million books sold in North America)
WHAT WE THOUGHT
“Going Down to Chinatown” is the latest Geronimo Stilton adventure. The same setup is back, as we get four episodes and no special features. I’m not asking for a lot, but some kids aren’t used to the book series. I would like to know more about the books that the cartoon is based on, but they just throw you into the deep end. That might be a bit overwhelming for some younger viewers.
I’m starting to like these little rat characters. Sure, they’re no “Littles”, but they work for what they are. There’s something about a rodent detective trying to solve a problem way too big for just one little guy that speaks to me. I’m not a rat, but I appreciate it when people can rise above their limitations to solve insurmountable challenges. Times like these, I wonder what to say after clearing an hour and a half of animated material. If it wasn’t terrible, then how can you truly knock it? But, it’s material aimed at children who are clearly out of your demographic. I should reproach it with the kid in a few years.
The DVD comes with no special features. The A/V Quality is strong enough for a feature like this. The lossy Dolby 2.0 mix bugs as an audiophile. However, the transfer provides enough support for standard definition. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to fans.
