Cinephobia Releasing is thrilled to kick off its inaugural slate with a highly anticipated release. ‘Sublime’, an evocative film that has made waves on the global queer film festival circuit, is set to become available to audiences across North America. From June 20, film enthusiasts can access this compelling narrative on DVD, Cable, and Digital VOD platforms, including Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play, and Vudu.
Shot in Argentina, ‘Sublime’ is the brainchild of writer/director Mariano Biasin and marks his and lead actor Martín Miller’s feature-length debut. Alongside co-lead Teo Inama Chiabrando, they tenderly portray the complexities and beauty of first love.
Following its world premiere at the renowned Berlin Film Festival, ‘Sublime’ embarked on a global screening tour. Its critically acclaimed run included showings at BFI Flare, Outfest, Rainbow Reel Tokyo, and AFI Latin American Film Festival. The movie received notable accolades, including the Sebastiane Latino Award at the San Sebastian International Film Festival and the Grand Jury Prize in the Ibero-American Competition at the Seattle International Film Festival.
‘Sublime’ introduces audiences to the timid 16-year-old Manuel (Martín Miller) who discovers a newfound zest for life when he and his best friend Felipe (Teo Inama Chiabrando), along with other pals, form a garage rock band. The deep, long-standing friendship between the boys intensifies through their shared passion for music.
However, tension arises when Felipe starts dating a girl, prompting Manuel to follow suit, all the while grappling with his burgeoning romantic feelings for Felipe. His confusion and fear of unrequited love lead him to retreat emotionally, culminating in a confrontation that forces him to acknowledge his feelings head-on.
The film, with a run-time of 100 minutes, is delivered in Spanish with English subtitles.
