Promare

Promare is the first feature film from Trigger. They’re an anime studio with a following and I guess it’s because their unique animation style. It’s a story about mutants vs. flame wielding alien mutants that destroyed the world. At times, it’s hard to tell them apart. But, I guess that’s just because I’m not used to the genre trappings.

promare gkids

Anime has such an ally in GKids. GKids has done amazing things to bring all sorts of world animation into America. Whether it’s award winning French cinema or carefully crafted anime like this, all audiences win with this exposure. But, what about the film?

It’s mutants vs. mutants in bright flashing colors for nearly two hours. TOHO Animation knows that if a formula isn’t broken, don’t fix it. Mechs, mutants and general mayhem is all I expect out of anime. Sorry, guys. Not everything is going to be Grave of the Fireflies. It would be nice, but I enjoy palate cleansers like Promare.

Promare 2

The Blu-ray comes with an interview, roundtable, featurettes and trailers as the special features. The A/V Quality is on display in the screenshots. But, the real treat is in the DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track. If you dig off-kilter anime, then I recommend Promare.

Promare is now available on Blu-ray from Shout Factory/GKids.
