Cielo is a wonderful documentary about the night sky over the Atacama Desert. Many will desperately hunt for a narrative, but director Alison McAlpine isn’t having it. Drawing inspiration from films like Baraka, McAlpine wants you to focus on what matters in the world of Cielo. Admire natural beauty and be part of the world around you. Stellar stuff that I wish was in 4K. Great DTS track.
Constructing Albert is a look at how Albert Adria stepped out of the shadow of elBulli’s demise. The rest of the film takes us through Albert’s next restaurants and efforts to break out of the mold of past success. He will never be his brother, but Albert will keep trying and that’s inspiring.
Penny Points to Paradise sports the feature film debuts of Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan and Harry Secombe. It’s a funny British crime flick from the early 1950s. It’s odd how that seems to be a subgenre. Either way, the film plays super short but manages to kick up the angry banter. You also get a Peter Sellers short with the film.
Kinky was recommended to me during the Winter to watch. It took me forever to check it out, but I ended up enjoying chunks of it. What’s weird is that it took this long to get the African American focused take on the 50 Shadows phenom. But, even that feels trite.
Hell, Kinky had Freda Payne in it. It’s a pretty solid guest spot that doesn’t take away from the sex positive nature of the rest of the film. I enjoyed it and recommend it to others.
