The Great Buster: A Celebration [Review]

The Great Buster: A Celebration is my favorite documentary of the year so far. That’s saying a lot, as this has been an incredible last few years for docs. Buster Keaton is one of the few American comedic gods. However, I don’t know if it was worth having a documentary that restates easily found facts. Johnny Knoxville mined a lot of Keaton jokes for Jackass. We get it.

Peter Bogdanovich is becoming an odd director in his older age. The choice of making a TV special followed by a visual essay is quite bizarre. But, I just like seeing everyone from Quentin Tarantino to Richard Lewis talking about the Great Buster.

There is something about excessive interviews contributing to Talking Head syndrome. However, it’s exciting to see experienced fandom being experience by pros about pros. There comes a time when even the smartest people are just sharing stories that you know. So, what is there left to say?

Buster Keaton is awesome and now I want to see the Cohen releases of his prime Silent Movies? The special features are nice, but I still could’ve stood to see some more Keaton. How about slapping on a short film on the special features?

The Great Buster: A Celebration arrives on April 2nd
