KROLL SHOW: SEASON 3

THE END OF KROLL SHOW REVIEWED

“Kroll Show” shouldn’t have worked as well as it did for three seasons. Basically, Nick Kroll was just doing his Tracey Ullman stick for hipsters and it stuck. It was nice to see that Kroll had a gameplan for wrapping up his plots and characters. Getting a conclusion to the overlong Dr. Armond dead wife saga was great, but I still miss Wheels of Ontario. That show practically counted as a Degrassi side project.

Honestly, the whole show was an argument for less is more. When I was a kid watching Saturday Night Live, I used to wonder why they couldn’t do Opera Man or Matt Foley every episode. It’s only after the Fallon and eventually the Wiig years that I figured it out. If you have greatness, rarely go back to the well for the same. There’s genteel endearment to be had, but you have to be able to keep creating new characters. Not everything is going to work, but what else are you going to do? Nobody wants a world built for Tiny Elvis.

Fans of the series will appreciate the frequent callbacks and bevy of guest stars. I’m a little sad that “The League” and now “Kroll Show” is gone. Where else am I supposed to go for my Kroll/Ruxin/Kroll comedy fix? I don’t listen to Maron because Generation X whiny douchebags talking to celebrities has gotten very old to me. Where do I turn? Did you think about that, Mr. Kroll?
