TONIGHT SHOW, THE: JOHNNY AND FRIENDS: STEVE MARTIN, ROBIN WILLIAMS AND EDDIE MURPHY

THE TONIGHT SHOW: JOHNNY AND FRIENDS REVIEWED

“Johnny and Friends” brings together full episodes from three amazing comedians. Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy and Robin Williams get to flex their muscle through the late 70s – early 90s. What’s even more amazing is that all three of Eddie Murphy’s appearances happened within 8 months of 1982. History is a tricky thing, but so many people forget the meteoric rise of Murphy. I still find it crazy that he’s barely above Randall ‘Tex’ Cobb in his Summer 1982 show visit.

I love these presentations, as they pick the best episodes and match them with vintage commercials. What’s weird is that if you didn’t have that early Tonight Show return for Steve Martin, most of these episodes take place within a decade of time. That seems to work better thematically. Oh well, it’s not like I produced the DVD.
